The Walker

The kids of PS22 Chorus offer up three minutes and ten seconds of pure unadulterated joy with their cover of "The Walker" by Fitz And The Tantrums!! All the elements come together for a truly winning video -- a brilliant song, an adorable solo (courtesy of Kenyatta), powerful harmony, and a passionate performance! It just doesn't get much better than this, folks!!

Throwback Thursday: Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)

PS22 Chorus pulled out all the stops for this rather amazing performance of one of my favorite songs from my childhood, "Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)" by Squeeze! The kids definitely brought new life to this 80s classic!  Love this!!

PS22 Chorus Sings In FIFTH HARMONY!

Last Thursday, the incredible girls of Fifth Harmony stopped by to make some music and thoroughly inspire the children of the PS22 Chorus! Making music with Fifth Harmony was an unforgettable experience for the kids, and apparently vice versa! The two groups joined together for special performances of "Miss Movin' On" and "Who Are You," and even a short rendition of "Jar of Hearts" by our previous guest, Christina Perri! The young ladies had some beautiful words for the kids which you can see/hear for yourself after the performance of "Miss Movin' On," the first video shared from this incredible afternoon! In The Embers

Perhaps the most poignant performance ever from the PS22 Chorus, here is the beautiful "In The Embers" by Sleeping At Last. Special props to Chelsea and Dianeris for their gorgeous duet. Prepare to be moved....

It was wonderful to get such some fantastic positive feedback from Sleeping At Last (see below!) via Twitter, and also from actor Josh Radnor from How I Met Your Mother who tweeted, "Gorgeous."

Christina Perri

Just last week, the PS22 Chorus was treated to a visit from the lovely and talented Christina Perri! Before her visit we agreed on two songs that we would prepare for the visit - "A Thousand Years" (featured in the movie Twilight) and her new single, "Human!" Oddly enough, perhaps the most special rendition of all was the unplanned "Jar Of Hearts!" This one was a last minute add-on to the setlist that we surprised her with. Christina was such a good sport, as the vocal arrangement I prepared for the kids required her to change the chord structure of her piano part in order for the harmonies to work. She spent the time to work it out with us, and what happened next was sheer magic.  Another highlight is the Q&A featured on the "A Thousand Years" video which includes a Twilight war, insight to Christina's first efforts at song-writing, and chorus members Juan and Kenyatta shamelessly flirting with our guest!

A blazing hot rendition of "Bonfire Heart" by James Blunt from the PS22 Chorus, given an extra punch by our latest discovery -- 3rd grader Malcolm on the drums!!

Me & My Charms

PS22 Chorus of 2004 alum Clive returns to lead the group in a breathtaking version of one of my all-time favorite songs, "Me And My Charms," by the extraordinary Kristin Hersh! Clive just continually improves with time, and sounds absolutely incredible! And we should mention the video was filmed by chorus member Matthew!

Kristin Hersh tweeted that she was "moved to tears" by the video and sent her love to the kids for their amazing performance!

LOVE SOMEBODY: The Valentine's Day Project

Recently I reached out to Joe Vercellino, the music teacher at Northpointe Academy in Detroit, Michigan, to congratulate him on the amazing work he's doing with his Beasts of The Beat project. (Someone had sent me a link to a local news station spotlighting the group via Twitter.) He responded saying he'd love to collaborate, connecting his Northpointe Academy Chorus with the PS22 Chorus, suggesting we sing "Love Somebody" by Maroon 5 for a special Valentine's Day video. The results are what you see and hear, an innovative video submitted to promote music education, connectivity, and some seasonal love!  Happy Valentine's Day!

Now You're Ours, Kim Cameron!

This year more than ever the PS22 Chorus has been treated to an eclectic array of esteemed visitors spanning multiple musical genres. Here's something quite different and unexpected - an (at first) acoustic performance of "Now You're Mine" by dance artist Kim Cameron, lead singer of Side FX! Oh, and you'll want to make sure to stick around until at least the 3 minute mark....

Teddy Geiger & PS22 Chorus Go Walking In The Sun!

Last week, PS22 Chorus was treated to another spectacular visit -- this time from singer/songwriter Teddy Geiger! Teddy is an amazing singer/songwriter and an incredibly cool and humble guy, both of which you can tell from watching the videos from our time together! Check out these amazing performances of Teddy's song "Walking In The Sun" and Lou Reed's "Perfect Day!"

A Great Big World & PS22 Chorus are ROCKSTARS!

After turning out a magnificent cover of the brilliant song, "Say Something," the kids of PS22 Chorus were treated to a visit from the fantastic gentlemen of A Great Big World! The two groups joined forces for a couple of smashing performances, starting with a powerful version of the aforementioned hit originally performed with Christina Aguilera! Chorus member Alyssa gave her seat to band member Chad Vaccarino and shared the piano bench and soloing duties with Ian Axel and did a knock-out job! Then the adrenalin kicked in for an unbelievable version of "Rockstar" that featured some seriously cool three and four part harmonies! After we did the two songs we planned, the guys taught the chorus a part for their song, "I Really Want It!" AND we also had a fun impromptu jam with Ian on our friends' The Mowgli's song, "San Francisco!"  Check out all four of the amazing performances below!!

Wonderful to see the great response the videos have gotten from the likes of The Huffington Post, Perez Hilton, PopCrush, VH1, and even MTV Buzzworthy! Our "Say Something" video was #1 of the Top 10 entertainment news pieces on the televised Showbiz Tonight!
